Tammy, who co-stars with her sister Amy Slaton Halterman in the TLC series 1000-Lb. Sisters, has shared details about her health struggle since the show’s premiere in January 2020. After undergoing bariatric surgery in July 2022 and spending 14 months in a weight loss rehab center, Tammy has persisted in sharing her weight loss journey on social media and on TV. By December 2023, Tammy had shed forty-eight pounds.

She not only shares her weight reduction story but also discusses how the experience has improved her mental health.“Before I went to rehab, I was just bitter, unhappy, and very suicidal depressed,” she said in a February TikTok. “I personally have seen a lot of growth within myself and how I treat people and my family. And just my attitude and how happy I seem. I smile a lot more.”

Alongside such advancement, the reality star also commemorated other achievements.

“I actually got on rides [at Disney World.] And I rode in a hot air balloon,” Tammy continued. “I value life now, where before I hated it. I hated everything about life.”

She posted a photo of herself at the pool with her friend, psychic medium Haley Michelle, a few months later, in April. Her openness in sharing her tale has also touched her fans. As one person commented, “Holy wow! The transformation is incredible! I am so happy to see how far you have come. I may have cried a little.”
