Another beloved face from M*A*S*H is gone, leaving a television family grieving. Judy Farrell brought Nurse Able to life, but the bonds she forged beyond the cameras made this farewell deeply personal. As news of her death spread, one costar’s tribute revealed the love behind the familiar uniform, and the heartbreak now wrapped around every precious, deeply treasured memo… Continues…
Judy Farrell, remembered for playing Nurse Able in eight episodes of M*A*S*H, died at 84, her son Michael confirmed. Her appearances included the celebrated 1983 finale, “Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen.” Away from the screen, she shared two children, Erin and Michael, with her first husband and fellow cast member Mike Farrell. Their marriage lasted from 1963 to 1983. She later married actor Joe Bratcher, who remained her husband until her death.
For Loretta Swit, who portrayed Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan, the loss was profoundly personal. “Judy was a most beautiful woman—inside and out. We grew up together,” she told Fox News Digital. “She was family.” Before her television career, Farrell taught English and drama and nurtured her love of acting at the Laguna Playhouse. Her story extended far beyond a familiar uniform: she was a teacher, performer, mother, and cherished friend whose memory her loved ones would carry forward.
