Kerry, a grandmother living on her modest pension, faced a challenge. Despite her limited means, she wanted to buy a beautiful dress for her granddaughter, Anne, who was about to attend her high school prom. Even though Anne downplayed the event, claiming she didn’t care about it, Kerry suspected the real reason behind her reluctance—money. Anne’s mother, Lisa, earned minimum wage, and their financial constraints made it difficult to splurge on a prom dress.
Determined to give Anne a memorable prom night, Kerry decided to forgo her funeral savings and surprise her granddaughter with a dress. She visited a luxury boutique in search of the perfect gown. However, her experience there was anything but pleasant.
A Cold Reception
Upon entering the store, Kerry was greeted by a saleswoman named Sandra. Though polite at first, Sandra’s demeanor quickly shifted as she sized Kerry up, making it clear she didn’t believe Kerry belonged in the boutique.
“Hi, I’m looking for a dress for my granddaughter’s prom,” Kerry explained, still hopeful despite Sandra’s dismissive attitude. But the saleswoman suggested she try somewhere cheaper, like Target, implying that Kerry couldn’t afford anything in the store.
