Amish Wedding Steak

Amish Wedding Steak is a hearty and flavorful dish that is often enjoyed at gatherings and celebrations. Here’s a recipe to prepare this traditional and comforting Amish dish:

Ingredients:

For the Steak Marinade:

  • 2 lbs round steak, tenderized and cut into serving-size pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Coating:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Gravy:

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Step 1: Marinate the Steak:

  1. In a bowl, combine the buttermilk, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, salt, and pepper.
  2. Place the tenderized round steak pieces into the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.

Step 2: Prepare the Coating:

  1. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Step 3: Coat the Steak:

  1. Remove the marinated steak from the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature.
  2. Dredge each piece of steak in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.

Step 4: Fry the Steak:

  1. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Fry the coated steak pieces in batches until they are golden brown on both sides. This usually takes about 4-5 minutes per side. Transfer the fried steak to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 5: Make the Gravy:

  1. Pour off most of the oil from the skillet, leaving about 2 tablespoons.
  2. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of flour into the skillet, stirring continuously to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the beef broth until the mixture thickens and becomes a smooth gravy.
  4. Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 6: Serve:

  1. Pour the gravy over the fried Amish Wedding Steak and serve hot.

Tips:

  • Serve the Amish Wedding Steak with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles for a classic and comforting meal.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a burst of color and added freshness.

This Amish Wedding Steak recipe is a delicious and homely dish that brings warmth to the table. Enjoy the rich flavors and comforting aroma of this Amish-inspired favorite!
